Questions
Questions, answered
What families ask us most, from prices and hallmarks to bridal planning, gold exchange and live video viewing.

Do you show prices on the website?
Not online. Gold is priced at the day's rate and many of our pieces are one of a kind, so we share an up-to-date quote on request. Message us on WhatsApp and we'll reply within the day.
Where is Talwar Jewellery House?
At SCF 13, Sector 22D, Chandigarh 160022. We're open every day from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm.
Do I need an appointment?
Walk-ins are always welcome. For a bridal consultation, solitaire selection or a gold exchange, booking ahead means the right person and the right pieces are ready for you.
Is your gold jewellery hallmarked?
Yes. Our gold jewellery carries the BIS hallmark with a six-character HUID, which you can check yourself on the BIS CARE app.
Can you make a piece to my own design?
Yes. Bring a sketch, a photo or an heirloom you'd like reworked, and we'll talk through stones, gold and timelines with you.
When should I start planning my bridal jewellery?
Ideally three to six months before the wedding. Made-to-order polki and kundan can take several weeks, and you'll want time for fittings.
Can my family come to the consultation?
Of course. Bridal consultations are private, and family members are welcome.
I live abroad. Can I still choose my jewellery with you?
Yes. Start with the trousseau planner, then book a live video viewing. We'll show each piece on camera and keep your shortlist ready for when you arrive in Chandigarh.
What is the difference between polki and kundan?
Polki uses uncut, natural diamonds in their raw form. Kundan is the setting technique of folding refined gold foil around stones. Our journal explains both in detail.
What is the difference between 22K and 18K gold?
22K is 91.6% pure gold (stamped 916) and is traditional for Indian bridal and heritage jewellery. 18K is 75% gold (stamped 750); it is harder, so it is used to hold diamonds and coloured stones securely.
How is gold jewellery priced?
By weight at the day's gold rate, plus making charges, any stones, and GST. We itemise every part of your quote.
Can I verify the hallmark myself?
Yes. Enter the six-character HUID from the piece into the BIS CARE app to see its purity and the jeweller who registered it.
Can I exchange gold bought from another jeweller?
Yes. Bring hallmarked gold from any jeweller and we credit its full value, with 0% deduction, against new jewellery from the house.
What should I bring?
The jewellery, a photo ID, and the original bill if you have it. We weigh and test the gold in front of you.
What about gold without a hallmark?
Bring it in. We'll test it, explain its purity and value, and you decide from there.
How does live video viewing work?
Pick a time and we'll call you on WhatsApp video from the house. We show the piece in daylight, on a hand, and answer your questions as we go.
How long does it take, and is there a charge?
About fifteen minutes, and it's free.
Can I ask to see several pieces?
Yes. Send us the names or screenshots beforehand and we'll have them ready on the tray.
Can I choose the diamond for an engagement ring?
Yes. Tell us your preferred shape, size and setting, and we'll show you stones side by side, at the house or on video.
What are the 4Cs?
Cut, colour, clarity and carat weight: the four qualities that describe a diamond. Cut affects sparkle the most, so we always start there.
Do you work in white, yellow and rose gold?
Yes. Most of our diamond and coloured-stone pieces are set in 18K gold, and many can be made in the colour you prefer.
